how to customize grand total and total?

i want to apply some calculation on grand total and subtotal from customer side , im unable to find where to apply. e.g
i have a product and i have set volume discount for that, i want say when product added to cart and volume goes to double then my calculations for volume discount should be applied that time. and then shows grand total and total. -
