How to set the default option in configurable product?

How to set the default option in configurable product, so that when user click add to cart from the homepage the default size is selected and proceed for check out instead of showing "error options are missing for this product".

configurable product doesn't support default value selected, you can achieve this from simple product and add custom attribute type as neccessary.
